Sustainability

Colac Specialist School has undertaken a whole school approach to sustainability and is a member of the Resource Smart School's Initiative.

The main focus of the Program is to explore real-life learning experiences while working to improve the school's management of resources and facilities including energy, waste, water, biodiversity, landscape design, products and materials.

The project is divided into five modules.  The core module sets the process in place and covers a range of areas including policy, planning and data collection.  The other four modules, Waste, Water, Energy and Bio-diversity allow for sustainable changes to be incorporated into school practice over a period of time.

The Resource Smart School's Initiative is driven by a voluntary staff group in the school and a group of students from the Later Year's section who have named themselves the 'Resource Rescuers'.

We are currently a "2 Star" Resource Smart School, accredited for the Core, Waste and Energy modules. We are in the final stages of being accredited for Water and in 2012 will commence our Bio-diversity focus.
